I was just curious about what others are doing as far as spiritual development is concerned. Usually martial art and parkour alike are merely physical endeveurs to most people nowadays. It is that way here in the US anyway.

Meditation is rarely taught anymore in traditional classes, and because most don't want to be politically incorrect spiritual teachings are taken out of martial arts methods. This to me is unfortunate because it has watered down the arts and also kept students from realizing their full potential.

If you have no spiritual practice, I suggest finding one. You will be surprised at how you will synergistically develop once you focus on improving body, and mind, as well as spirit.

Even Christianity is compatable to martial arts training. You don't have to be Zen or a Buddha master. The apostle Paul called his walk with Christ the "good fight of faith", He also advises us to put on the "full armor of God."

I'm not trying to start a religious debate here. I just want to know how many of you are out there that realize the importance of spirituality in martial arts training. I don't care what you do, practice or believe. That is your choice.

On the other hand, if you do have experience in spiritual development, I would be interested in hearing how/if it has deepened or enriched your martial arts training.

I have only just started my studies of Ninjutsu, however I am an instructor in Jun Fan JKD Concepts. I have studied JKD for 13 years.

However that is not to say that this new way of training has not changed my life in anyway. I used to be very against "traditional" martial arts. JKD is very ecclectic and definately not traditional. It is about street fighting, period. However as I progressed I realized that their is so much more to martial art than combat.

That's why I came to be interested in ninjutsu. It offers elements that JKD doesn't like escapeing danger, camoflauge and concealment, sentry removal and assasination, as well as the spiritual side of things.

It has changed me for the better because I feel honored to be part of a warrior class that has been trying to survive for centuries. We survived the attacks then, and we will survive them now! The tradition itself is wonderfull, but we also have to keep the ideals alive and make them applicable for today.

As far as finding a good school, it is hard because not many teach Ninjutsu as a whole. I would like to suggest Budo Ryu Ninjutsu because they teach from all seven traditions of the warrior class. The head instructor is Anshu Christa Jacobson and she offers alot of home study options to gain rank under her school. We are trying to become an affiliate with her, but she is a busy lady! Hopefully some of her training resources will be available here on W.O.N soon!

ahh yes. so glad i found this website today. i only wish we had a chance to talk in person. no matter how hard i look i cannot find a seperation between raising my vibrational awareness and my martial arts training. martial arts is all about self-discipline right? well you can only go so far with that training if you do not know who or what this "self" is. it is a very elusive idea and takes a lot of focus and work to be able to find the seat of the soul. when i sense doubt in my peers that there is anything more than the external world they think they percieve i simply ask them to point to their "self". if they point to their chest, i say "no, that is YOUR chest, it BELONGS to you. again, please show me where you are." usually the figure it pretty quickly that it is impossible to prove that they exist at all. kind of like the old zen question about showing me your original face before your parents were born.

the world of science is coming to this realization as well. recent findings within the past 100 hundred years of quantum mechanics is forcing the most skeptical mind to literally question everything all over again. the past century has also helped see further into our subconscious minds. wether it springs from the works of Freud, Jung, Milton Erickson, Richard Bandler, Timothy Leary, etc.... anyway it's impossible to ignore any existential questions if you've ever had them. the point is that there is NO SEPARATION between becoming a ninja and the spiritual path. i kinda want to write more on this but i have to fly out the door. i literally just found this website and so far it's freaking awesome. awaken the kundalini. if you die before you die then when you die you won't die! read Robert Anton Wilson's Quantum Psychology, be yourself, compete in MMA and ask the universe to show you how to Love more.. i will write more later. crazy. just wild. smoke DMT too. eating muchrooms is not for partying. not if you want to be a real ninja. learn and become and expert on all the local plants and herbs. master the senses. you are nothing more than an awareness, and the expansiveness of that awareness depends entirely on you. this is TRUE responsibility and simutaneously TRUE freedom. amazing, i know. insane.
